Telegram blocked channels with addresses and phone numbers of security officials, journalists and protesters

The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, announced the blocking of “problem channels” that publish personal data (home addresses and phone numbers) of a whole group of people.

“Over the past weeks, we have blocked several channels that posted publicly the phone numbers and addresses of protesters in Russia. Together with them, channels appeared where the home addresses and phone numbers of judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, as well as journalists and media managers are published, ”Durov wrote in his Telegram channel.

Due to such channels, an emergency update of the messenger for iOS has not been released for more than a week, because it does not receive Apple’s approval, Durov explained. Therefore, he decided to block channels with personal data and assured that Telegram would continue to apply uniform rules to all violators, regardless of their political views.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor called the publication of personal data of Russians in Telegram as connivance.
